SOC analyst resources: frameworks, training, and tools worth knowing
On this page
Security operations center (SOC) analysts learn most of the job on shift, but the right resources speed that up considerably. The list below covers the frameworks analysts reference daily, the hands-on platforms where they build investigation skills, and the open-source projects that shape modern detection work.
Frameworks every analyst should know
MITRE ATT&CK is the shared language for attacker behavior. Mapping alerts to its tactics and techniques makes investigations easier to explain and detection gaps easier to spot.
The NIST Cybersecurity Framework gives the wider picture of how detection and response fit into an organization’s security program. The CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog is a practical daily check for which CVEs attackers are actively using.
Hands-on training platforms

Open-source detection resources
The Sigma project provides a vendor-neutral format for detection rules, with a large community library that analysts can read to understand how specific attacks are caught. Reading good detection logic is one of the fastest ways to get better at judging alerts.
How Exaforce views the changing analyst role
As agentic SOC platforms take on more first-pass triage, analysts spend less time on repetitive alerts and more on reviewing AI agent verdicts, threat hunting, and complex investigations. The skills these resources build, especially reasoning about evidence, matter more in that setup, not less.
Building a learning routine
Pick one framework to learn deeply and one hands-on platform to use weekly. Small, regular practice on realistic investigations does more for an analyst’s judgment than occasional long courses.
